Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday categorically declined to apologize for his recent outbreak against PPP, a key coalition partner for PML-N at the center.
War of Words, which began over flood compensation through Benazir Income Support Program (Bisp), between PPP and PML-N, was further intensified after Punjab CM, during an event in Faisalabad, rejected PPP’s objection to the disputed channel project on the Indus River.
PPP has called for assistance with flood victims via Bisp – a proposal rejected by the Punjab government.
On Tuesday, PPP’s legislators went out of both the Senate and the National Assembly sessions to protest against comments from Punjab CM on the channels and her comments about PPP leaders’ reactions to her government’s performance during the floods.
When he spoke at a ceremony in Lahore, CM Maryam said she would answer every time Punjab was attacked. She added: “As a minister of chief if I don’t speak for Punjab, who will?”
Her remarks came a day after the National Assembly’s speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reportedly succeeded in persuading PML-N and PPP to end public criticism against each other, The news reported.
She talked about the event and said that during the floods she was presented to seek international help, but she would never ask her people to beg with a bowl in her hand, nor would she allow their dignity to be compromised.
With reference to the events on May 9, CM Maryam said that the one who encourages you to burn and the surroundings is your “greatest enemy”.
Without naming the prison PTI founder Imran Khan, she said: “On May 9, children were asked to attack the country, but their own children sit outside.”
She highlighted her government’s performance and said, “I have stopped fully for favorite and rigging.”
Study centers in Punjab were not sold now, she added.
Punjab CM said she is responsible to Allah, Almighty and then to the People of Punjab.
