- A new enemy, Radhog, comes to Fallout 76
- Players will also be able to get a friendly to their camps
- This was partially inspired by the creative director’s own childhood pet
The coming Fallout 76: Burning Springs Update adds a new Radhog Camp column with surprisingly real world inspirations.
These great mutant pigs will be present in the game’s new Ohio region as enemies, but the players will also be able to get their hands on one to place in their settlements as pets.
In an interview at a preview event last month, the creative director Jon Rush revealed that the decision to add a friendly Radhog was partly inspired by his real lifestyle.
“When I grew up, I had a pet pig named Hamilton,” he said. “So with us who put a radhog in the game and it was a suitable size for a camppet, I just couldn’t give it the opportunity to get it to one.”
“It’s a tribute to Hamilton,” he continued. “When Fallout 76 was first conceived, there were some concepts for Radhogs performed by an artist and we had just never made them. “
“Going through the older concepts and seeing it, it felt like a really good fit to have these, these evil pigs ran around the new region. And of course, Hamilton was in the back of my mind, I was like, ‘Well, we’ll do it’.”
“I think it also plays into the player’s feedback,” Direct Bill Lacoste added. “We gave the players the dog and cats. They love dogs and cats, but now they get some more interesting pets.”
The update of Burning Springs will be released in December with the premiere of Fallout TV Shows second season.
Fallout 76 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One or PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S via backward compatibility.
