LAHORE: Punjab Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday paid tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir for his extraordinary leadership during Pakistan’s military standoff with India in May this year.

With reference to the participants in the National Security and War Course 2026 in the CM house in Lahore, Maryam said the nation remained debt to the victims of the armed forces.

“I want to congratulate Pakistan armed forces and also the forces of the friendly countries about the historic victory of [operation] Bunyan-Um-Maroos, ”she said.

CM Maryam was of the opinion that Pakistan stood as a proud country because of the success of the operation.

She also reaped praise for Army Manager Field Marshal Munir for his leadership skills during Pakistan’s response to India’s aggression in May.

“I would like to commend and praise the extraordinary leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir in wartime,” she said.

However, Punjab CM emphasized the importance of a stable and progressive internal front for national security.

“Internal weak front is a breeding ground for all diseases. If the country is weak from the inside, even if there is no external threat, it poses a serious threat to national security,” she said.

With reference to the establishment of Bangladesh in 1971, CM Maryam said conflict in the country was dangerous to Pakistan’s national security.

By reflecting on the recent floods, the Punjab chief minister paid tribute to the efforts of her ministers and the provincial administration to take timely measures to protect people throughout the province.

“My first priority is the rehabilitation of flood victims, with all the resources deployed for the rehabilitation operation,” she said.

Punjab CM declared that her government secured the provision of three meals a day to flooded people along with medical facilities throughout the province.

The recent floods that severely damaged infrastructure and agriculture throughout the country resulted in economic losses of RS371 billion.

The flash flood and stormy rain also claimed over 1,000 lives across the country, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

Of the total 1,006 deaths, Punjab recorded 304 deaths, including 110 children, 143 men and 51 women.
