- Asahi and Jaguar Land Rover continue to recover after cyberattacks
- Both attacks stopped production and closed systems
- The two companies are now slowly starting production again
Both Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Asahi are apparently set to resume production after significant cyber attacks that stopped working in both organizations.
For JLR, this will come as a relief considering that production has been significantly affected for just over a month, with systems closures and plant closures that saw workers in Merseyside and Solihul sent home while the company took proactive measures to mitigate the damage.
Still, the recovery is not easy for JLR, which is reportedly having to be exposed to costs of “millions per week” due to lack of cyber insurance coverage. The company apparently negotiated coverage when the attack happened, but has since been written a loan of 1.5 BN from the British government to support the 30,000 JLR employees and another 200,000 workers affected in the supply chain.
Back on the tap
For alcohol giant Asahi, surgeries and shipments were suspended in up to 30 plants after a cyber attack caused a system failure across its Japanese operations.
With a 40% proportion of the Japanese beer market, the disturbance has been widespread, which has caused deficiencies in bars and restaurants – although its European brands including fillers and peroni were not affected.
The attack caused a system interruption that affected order processing, shipping and calling center features in Japan.
“The ASAHI attack shows how precious operational downtime can be when cyberresilience is not robust enough to withstand disturbance,” comments Andy Ward, SVP International of Absolute Security.
