Cleveland Browns’ decision to trade Joe Flacco for Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday opened the door of Rookie -Shedeur Sanders to be a backup for Dillon Gabriel with the hope of getting a meaningful game action during the season.

Gabriel wasn’t bad during Browns ’21 -17 loss to Minnesota Vikings, but didn’t quite do enough to give the offense it needed. He was 19-of-33 with 190 passing yards and two touchdown passports. Browns put the ball four times in the fourth quarter and went three-and-out on three of these drives.

Sanders, who has already expressed that he could do better than most starters in the NFL, were asked about the Flacco trade.

“He was definitely someone I read for wisdom and I feel he helped me a lot,” he told Fox 8 in Cleveland on Tuesday. “He helped me a lot in my time to be here in Cleveland and his time to be here in Cleveland. Everyone has their own fates and has their own plans … I’m just happy for him.”

He said he was talking to Flacco after trade and expressing his amazement.

“He is definitely a person who adapts to every situation he is in,” Sanders continued. “He’s an old man, so it’s funny … I always bring the youngness out of him and he always smiles … (know the) fun things I do … in general because he understands where I’m right now.”
