The latest figures from similar web show that traffic to Google Gemini is rising to 1.1 billion visits a month, increasing by a massive 46% since August.
The increase in popularity of Gemini seems to be at the expense of chatgpt. The speakers from the SelatoriWeb SelatoriWeb for AI Chatbots a month ago showed Chatgpt at 78%, gemini number two of 9.1%and Deepseek in third place of 4%. But by October 3, the chatgpt traffic share was down to 73.8%, Gemini was up to 13.7%and Deepseek had a slight dip of 3.9%.

It is very likely that Openai inadvertently helps Google’s numbers rise due to the continued setback against its newly introduced security measures that change users to a special model called GPT-5 instant if Chatbot detects that the user is in need.
Openai, who explained his actions in an X-post from October 3, wrote: “We update GPT-5 instantly to better recognize and support people in moments of distress. Sensitive parts of conversations will now route to GPT-5 immediately to quickly give even more useful answers. Chatgpt will continue to tell users which model is active when asked.”
The move comes as part of Chatgpt’s new approach to supporting users in crisis and offering improved parental control.
However, a number of chatgpt’s users seem furious that the mechanism used to detect when a conversation is driven into a sensitive area is triggered too easily, which interferes with their use of a product they pay for.
“Nobody wants your nanny -state; let adults make their own choices!” Wrote Claire on x.com, reflecting the mood of many chatgpt users. “Today, when I was discussing my creation with 4o, I was directed to security mode again. When comparing loyalty among AI users, similar web found that Chatgpt had by far the most loyal user base, with a massive 82.2% of its users who visited no other Genai site. Gemini is in second place, but still far behind at 49.1%, with housing (35.6%), confusion (33.1%) and claude (18%) next.
While the recent increase in Gemini traffic is causing Google to celebrate, it still has a long way to go before it gets close to beating chat by its perch as the world’s favorite Genai tool.
Chatgpt’s online presence continues to dominate the Genai market according to Similar Web with 5.9 billion visits in September compared to Gemini’s 1.1 billion. Chatgpt.com was the fifth most popular site on the Internet in September and the only chatbot that made the top 10.
