Gilgit:
Police on Wednesday claimed to have regained the body of one of the attackers involved in the gun attack on priest Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad.
According to officials, the wounded militant’s accomplice abandoned his body along the roadside near Sultanabad before flinging off the stage. The body was later taken into custody and moved to a hospital after the end of legal formalities.
Diggit Raja Mirza Hassan, Commissioner Gilgit Division and other senior officials said the complete CCTV recordings were available. They added that nine suspects were detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
The attack took place last week near Central Police Office (CPO) in Nagar Colony, Gilgit, when unidentified guns opened fire on the convoy of Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad, who injured him and four of his guards. The incident raised concerns about sectarian tensions in the region, causing authorities to place the entire area on high alarm.
Police sources said the 2nd car used in the attack had been handed over to Inam Hussain one day earlier by its owner, Iqrar Hussain, who is now in custody. Law enforcement authorities continue the efforts to trace the remaining suspects and collect further evidence.
