- Apple has released a solution in iOS 26 for an annoying carplay -sound problem
- Now users can keep their listening habits private
- It also works with other Bluetooth sounds
Apple has added a new iOS 26 feature that provides owners of AirPods and other Bluetooth Headphones Greater control over the automatic transfer to wireless devices, including Apple CarPlay.
Imagine the scene: You are enjoying happy Kpop Demon Hunters Soundtrack, as you approach the car, only for Apple CarPlay to shoot up and automatically steal your sound stream that emits your guilty pleasure to the one who otherwise runs on shotgun.
Okay, so it’s probably not the end of the world, but it can be frustrating when Apple CarPlay in the middle of an important phone call or zoom meeting decides to take over, and the microphone mutes and you fumble to remedy the technical problems.
Fortunately, Apple has made it much easier to prevent this from happening, thanks to a new feature in iOS 26, originally discovered by macumors. It works with all wireless headphones, not just AirPods.
In iPhone’s Settings appThere is one AirPlay & Continuity Section that is under the General tab. Apple has added a ‘Keep sound with headphonesThe setting to switch (see below) that does exactly what it claims to do.
Once you have selected the option, it is possible to shoot up Apple CarPlay, a vehicle’s Bluetooth System or Bluetooth speakers without sounding audio automatically.
No more sound survivors
We have all been there: Idly to watch a YouTube video, only to get the sound annoyingly broadcast to a Bluetooth speaker in the home or an Apple CarPlay-enabled system in a car. Anyone who devotes themselves to something more dishonest very red-face.
The new ‘KEEP Audio with headphones’ function prevents it from happening while allowing manual audio delivery via iOS control center.
However, it is worth noting that headphones driving are illegal in many US states and wrinkled in many other European countries as it reduces the attention of the situation.
So automatically handing over audio to wireless Apple CarPlay could actually save your bacon.
