Angelina Jolie just admitted that she has no regrets of her decision to get a double mastectomy and the removal of the ovaries.
The 50-year-old star chose the procedures after she was told she is carrying the BRCA gene mutation, which dramatically increases breast and ovarian cancer risks.
In a sincere chat with Hello! The magazine that revealed where witnessing her mother and grandmother’s cancer battles affected her choices.
She explained, “I chose to have it (surgery) because I lost my mother and my grandmother very young. I have the BRCA gene, so I chose to have a double mastectomy a decade ago. And then I also had my ovaries removed because that was what took my mother.”
Angelina’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007 of only 56 after fighting breast and ovarian cancer.
The star admitted that she is completely comfortable with her preventative surgical decisions while preaching that every woman should make their own choice of health care.
Angelina added, “It’s my choices. I’m not saying that everyone should do it that way, but it’s important to have the choice. And I don’t regret it.”
The Maleficent Star revealed in 2013 that she underwent a preventative double mastectomy after medical professionals calculated that she was facing an 87 percent risk of developing breast cancer and a 50 percent chance of ovarian cancer. Then, in 2015, she reviewed the removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes.
