Attorney’s Convention rejects 26. Amendments

Participants in a Convention have rejected the 26th constitutional amendment and declared it a blow to supremacy of the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary.

All-Pakistan Attorney General, held at the Lahore High Court bar on Friday, unanimously decided that the 26th amendment destroyed constitutional government and freedom of legal.

The resolution confirmed that the legal community would continue its struggle until the amendment is completely abolished. It declared that lawyers would not accept any court decision that was handed down in favor of the amendment and promised that their movement would continue “until the Constitution is fully restored in Pakistan.”

A large number of senior lawyers and bar representatives from all over the country participated in the Convention and confirmed their entity and obligation to defend the rule of law, legal independence and constitutional supremacy.

A CB of the Supreme Court resumes to hear the petitions filed against the 26th constitutional amendment that was – beaten through parliament last October – introduced sweeping changes in the judiciary, including the formation of CBS.
