Shehbaz, Nawaz is discussing politics, security

Lahore:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra, where key party and governance were discussed.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz were also present.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Nawaz briefed on his recent visit to Malaysia and conveyed a goodwill message from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He said that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, especially on the economic sphere, “reached new heights”.

Shehbaz also assessed the party leader for his upcoming visit to Egypt and discussed the country’s internal and regional security situation, including border tensions with Afghanistan.

While such interactions between the two Sharifs have become a regular weekly affair, Sunday’s meeting came in the midst of a politically tense environment as the PML-N-led federal government faces several internal and external challenges.

Among them, the upcoming election to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief executive is an important political test for the reigning party.

According to sources, the establishment is eager to prevent the PTI boundary’s nominated, Sohail Afridi, ensures the province’s top castle -a task allegedly entrusted to PML -N management.

In his bid to bring together the required numbers, the party is said to reach out to PTI legislators and, if necessary, is even willing to consider supporting Jui-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for the position.

Apart from political maneuvering, the government continues to fight with an uptick in terrorism and border shifts with Afghanistan.
