Google has launched a new set of faces for Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen), with botanical illustrations and subtle animation to make the slim thermostat look like a piece of wall art.
The new faces are used on the thermostat’s FARSight screen that appears when there is activity within 20ft. When you move within approx. 3ft, the view changes to show the current measurement temperature, time, room temperature, analog or digital time and date or weather depending on which settings you have chosen. Google’s support site provides a full overview of how the system works.
The new Farsight screens include a botanical face that has 12 subtle animated works of art of fruits and flowers that change every month to fit the changing seasons. The video clip below shows four examples.
The new faces are a collaboration with illustrator, animator and filmmaker Mathilde Loubes and are now available through your thermostat’s setting menu.
Let’s become minimal
Google also adds three simpler looks options to your Thermostat’s Faright Gallery: A classic nest surface, as it says is a setback to the original NEST thermostat, an underrated minimalist face and a new temperature controller face.
Although simpler than the botanical faces, the minimalist face still has subtle animation to make one of the best smart thermostats even more appealing that you can see in the video clip below.
The rolling follows Google’s message about a new set of NEST devices, including a video derring clock, an indoor security camera and an outdoor Cam-Alt along with AI-run image improvement.
Google may be phasing out the Nest app in favor of Google Home, but the brand is definitely still alive and kicking. It will be interesting to see where the company is taking its nest hardware next time and how it all ties in with Gemini for the home-isar when it comes to paid for features. Will Google Home Premium members have access to even more faces or even the ability to create their own? We will have to wait and see.
