Cleveland Browns The broad recipient David Bell became the latest NFL player who announced an early retirement this week.
The 24-year-old announced his decision in a long-term post on social media and said an “off-field injury” ultimately forced him to retire. Bell added that continue to play in Nfl would “literally risk life and limb.”

“Several months ago, I was blinded by an off-field injury that was out of my control that put my football future in danger. After hearing medical experts and prayed, I accept that I continue to play football literally would risk life and limb. Even though it is the last thing I would otherwise do, with a heavy heart, I inform my pension.”

“Football gave me memories, I want to cherish forever and taught me how through focus, selflessness and determination the whole can be greater than the collection of individuals,” he continued. “Thank you to God for guiding me every step on the road and for the strength to chase this dream.”
Bell was The draft out of Purdue In the third round of 2022 NFL Draft. As a rookie he appeared in 16 games, a total of 214 yards. He scored his first NFL -Touchdown the following season, which he ended with 167 yards and three touchdowns.

Bell’s season 2024 was cut off shortly after he had a season -ending hip injury during week 2, his last professional performance. He opened the 2025 season on Browns’ list of non-football damage.

“Appreciate you, David. It has been a pleasure to have you part of our organization. Best wishes in this next chapter,” wrote Browns in a post on X in response to Bell’s message.
Bell thanked the organization in its statement. He also thanked lawyer Brad Sohn, a class case and injury attorney, to “make sure this never happens to anyone else again.” Sohn replied to X and said, “One thing for sure. This will not happen again. Sat.”

Bell did not reveal the nature of his injury.
