Why are Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith stopping their daughter’s custody trial?

Joshua Jackson, Jodie Turner-Smith reach new turn in custody battle

Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith canceled their court case over the custody of their five-year-old daughter Juno.

According to a legal document, the 39-year-old actress’ defense team asked the court on Oct. 14 to remove the former couple’s divorce case from the court’s calendar, which was scheduled to begin Wednesday, Oct. 15 via People.

The case revealed that The Queen & Slim actress and the 47-year-old actor are working out of court to compromise on a custody settlement for their daughter

The court document read, “[Turner-Smith and Jackson] is in the process of negotiating a judgment on custody. The parties will return to the privately compensated interim judge to resolve any impasses in the proposed remand sentence,” the documents read.

This came after Jackson filed for custody against Jodie on May 30, claiming that Jodie enrolled their 5-year-old daughter Juno in a new school without his permission that exceeded the commuting distance they had both settled on — 45 minutes from his place.

“Respondent respectfully requests orders ensuring that the minor child continues to attend his current school for the next academic year 2025-2026,” the court document read, “and that joint parental consent is required for any subsequent change of school.”

For the uninitiated, Turner-Smith filed for divorce from Jackson in October 2023 after four years of marriage. They finalized their divorce in May 2025.

At the time of the filing, the former couple agreed to joint custody of their daughter and that Jackson would pay $2,787 in monthly child support.

However, Juno’s academic future has been a point of contention between the couple since their divorce filing.
