Fran Drescher has revealed she once begged TV executives not to drag Happily divorced.
The 68-year-old actress and author, who was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 30, spoke to PEOPLE magazine and opened up about her journey in the entertainment world.
Drescher told the outlet that she played different characters in her career and that they all catapulted her to fame, but the role of Fran Lovett on Happily divorced was the one she wanted to portray for a long time.
The Saturday night fever alum said, “It’s a shame TV Land pulled Happily Divorced after only 36 episodes.”
She blamed “the bad business model” for the show’s slow start, adding: “I brought it to their attention, but they didn’t want to hear it. But in the end, I was right.”
Drescher recalled, “Two years later, I ran into one of the executives and they said, ‘If it’s any consolation, it’s like the big regret at TV Land. It shouldn’t have been canceled. It shouldn’t have gone away. It was so good.'”
The Hotel Transylvania star continued to state that Happily divorced was “finding her own,” and she was aware that attracting sponsors could take time.
“If you have limited money, you can’t pay for a series with the hope that you’ll be able to syndicate it or pre-sell it before you start running out of money,” she said.
It is relevant to mention it Happily divorcedwhich starred Valente Rodriguez, Rita Moreno, Michael Higgins and Tichina Arnold alongside Drescher, debuted in 2011 but was abruptly ended after two years.
