Over 80 kg of unhygienic chicken meat seized, two suspects arrested during the operation
Police have uncovered a gruesome racket in the city’s Moosa colony where meat from dead chickens was allegedly processed and supplied to fast food outlets, biryani stalls and hotels, posing a serious threat to public health.
According to Express News, acting on a tip-off, the Gulberg police on Sunday raided a warehouse near the railway crossing in Moosa Colony and seized over 80 kilos of unhygienic chicken meat. Two suspects – Anwar, son of Idrees, and Kamal, son of Manan – were arrested.
The raid followed a tip-off that dead poultry was being stored at the warehouse. Acting on the information, law enforcement officials, in coordination with the Sindh Food Control Authority (SFCA), launched an operation to recover spoiled meat and whole dead chickens from the premises.

A case was registered against the suspects on government complaint. According to the FIR, the accused were preparing the contaminated meat for distribution when the police swooped.
SFCA officials took custody of the confiscated stock of spoiled meat and sent samples for laboratory testing. During interrogation, the suspects ‘confessed’ to selling the dead chicken and the spoiled meat to various eateries in Karachi.
Authorities have since expanded the investigation to identify the companies involved and determine since when they were carrying out the illegal activities. Officials have promised strict action against all individuals and companies involved in the illegal supply. .
