Meta is cutting about 600 roles in its artificial intelligence division, a report said Axios have claimed.
It is believed that Meta’s old AI research group and some product and infrastructure departments may be affected, but employees of the new superintelligence labs should remain unaffected.
The company, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, has already committed to reducing organizational inefficiencies in the past, and this round of layoffs appears to align with those efforts rather than a response to economic headwinds and ongoing labor market trends.
The report claims that Alexandr Wang of Meta’s superintelligence labs noticed that smaller teams can make faster decisions, resulting in more influence. Internally, the Meta’s AI unit was also considered rather large and inefficient.
Despite the cuts, Meta is not necessarily saying goodbye to these workers – they can reapply for other roles within the organization if they choose not to accept the severance package, which is said to be worth 16 weeks’ pay plus two weeks per week. completed year of service.
