The show follows Emma (Victoire Du Bois), the author of a bestselling series of novels revolving around a witch named Marianne. When Emma announces that the series is coming to an end, an encounter with a childhood friend sends her on her way home, confronting the childhood nightmare that inspired the books as the line between fiction and reality begins to blur.
Bodin’s series delivers all the bone-chilling chills and gruesome visuals any horror fan could ask for, while creating a rich and intriguing mythology that will keep you up late into the night—not that you’d be able to sleep anyway.
And if you’re hesitant to pick up a show that’s since been canceled, let me assure you that while it would have been great to delve further into the show’s history, the lone season works perfectly as a standalone series, so there’s no risk of unresolved cliffhangers here.

As you’d expect from a show with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, the critics have nothing but praise for it Mariannewith Polygon calling it “a perfect recommendation for any horror fan” while praising the “viscerally disturbing images edited with hair-raising precision.”
