Lahore Traffic Police cracks down on one-wheelers

LAHORE:

Lahore Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown on “one-wheelers”, with social media users posting videos of dangerous stunts now also facing legal consequences.

According to CTO Lahore, Dr. Athar Waheed, the cyber patrolling team of Lahore Traffic Police keeps a round-the-clock vigil on one-wheelers across the city. He warned that videos promoting such stunts will not be tolerated and that legal action may be taken against those who post or share them for publicity.

The strict enforcement comes after a recent incident in Ichhra where a video of a boy, a girl and their group doing one-wheeling went viral on social media.

An FIR was registered immediately under several provisions of law, including rash and negligent driving (Section 279 PPC), driving without a valid driving license (Section 99-A, Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965), obstruction of police duties (Sections 138 & 141, Police Ordinance 2002) and public nuisance 294.

The FIR, recorded at police station Ichhra on October 22, cited Senior Traffic Warden ichra sector Shahid abbass ranja as the complainant.

The incident took place on October 23 at 8:00 a.m. when a motorcyclist riding a 125CC bike refused to cooperate during a routine traffic stop, creating a public disturbance and preventing the traffic warden from performing his duties.

Dr. Athar Waheed warned that one-wheeling is a deadly activity that has claimed lives and left families in mourning. He added: “Parents and teachers must play an active role in discouraging children from attempting such stunts.”

Lahore Traffic Police is running awareness campaigns in schools and colleges and will continue with 24/7 city-wide patrolling warning that anyone promoting or carrying out one-wheeling may face strict legal action.
