Pakistan welcomes first US shipment of crude oil, setting energy sector record

Pakistan’s energy sector on Wednesday marked a historic milestone with the arrival of the country’s largest US crude oil tanker, MT Pegasus, at the Cnergyico oil terminal in Balochistan.

The ship, carrying one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, is the first ever US crude cargo to dock at a Pakistani port. The import marks the formal start of crude oil trade between Pakistan and the US following a bilateral trade agreement.

According to Cnergyico, the MT Pegasus departed Houston on September 14 and docked at the company’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) offshore terminal today. The company described the event as a landmark development in the country’s energy landscape, underscoring Pakistan’s growing engagement in global crude oil markets.

Cnergyico, which previously set a record in 2017 for handling the country’s largest crude oil tanker, has announced plans for a second cargo arrival in mid-November and a third shipment in 2026.

With this latest development, Cnergyico has become Pakistan’s first company to import US crude, marking what industry observers see as a new chapter in Pakistan-US trade relations.
