Zohran Mamdani won the New York mayoral election on Tuesday, which did not please Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.
Late last month, Portnoy revealed that he had conversations with the company’s “financial people” about potentially moving the company out of New York, telling them to “start looking around for real estate.”
“Honestly, I’ve thought about it a lot … going to Hoboken or Jersey City or something,” Portnoy said on a live stream. “I don’t want an office (in Manhattan).”

Portnoy’s nightmare has come true, as the 34-year-old democratic socialist will take office from January. The morning after the election, Portnoy essentially shrugged it off.
“If that’s what the people of NYC want, so be it [sic] so be it. Thank God I don’t live there anymore,” he wrote on X.
In an interview with FOX Business in July, Portnoy called Mamdani a “communist” and “one of the worst, most sinister candidates.”
“He hates capitalism, he wants a fundamental shift in what has built this country, and he doesn’t really hide it much,” Portnoy said.

Portnoy went on to accuse Mamdani of being quick to “side with terrorists” and cited his criticism of Boston police for allegedly not reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev his Miranda rights when he was finally arrested in 2013 for the deadly Boston Marathon bombing.
“His reaction to it [the bombing] is ‘how did the police not read this guy Miranda acts when he’s in a boat’ not the people he killed. This is someone in a city where 9/11 happened. He would be quicker to blame the financiers in the building than the people who flew the planes into the buildings,” Portnoy said.

Mamdani defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa, who controversially stayed in the race.
