NEW Strands today (game #618) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #618, are…
- HARE
- TORTOISE
- MOUSE
- LION
- CRANE
- BULL
- WOLF
- MOSQUITO
- SPANGRAM: FABLEDPAIR
- My rating: Hard
- My score: Perfect
Of all Aesop’s fables, the one that has stuck with me the most since childhood has been THE TORTOISE & THE HARE – although it’s often the version with Bugs Bunny and Cecil Turtle that I think of the most.
When I was a marathon runner—a spectacularly slow one—I often thought of Cecil as I floated past the faster runners who had passed me earlier but were reduced to walking the last few miles.
And now, as a cyclist, I can’t help thinking the same, but about motorists who are so eager to pass someone on two wheels, but then get caught at one of London’s thousands of traffic lights (there is a 20km/h speed limit in central London, so the difference between car and cycle traffic is small).
Anyway, I digress, a fun game this and one where I tried to find the couples – a plan that fell apart more or less immediately as I had no idea what fable the crane contained.
Yesterday’s NYT Strand’s Answer (Monday, November 10, Game #617)
- ACCOUNTANT
- CLERK
- LEADER
- RECEPTIONIST
- AIDE
- SPANGRAM: OFFICE JOB
