- Google has explained more about the rollout of Gemini for the home
- It is based on home addresses rather than user accounts
- The update will expand beyond the US in early 2026
Gemini replaces Google Assistant everywhere, and that includes the Google Home app – although the switch hasn’t exactly been smooth and seamless. Now Google has published a new set of answers to questions that users have in connection with the rollout.
As spotted by Android Authority, the new forum post primarily addresses the timing around when Gemini for Home will go live. According to Google, it’s heading to users in the US first, while other markets will get it from the first quarter of 2026 (in other words, sometime before the end of March 2026).
Google further adds that the rollout is based on homes and not accounts, which is important for people who manage multiple homes – each of those homes will be upgraded separately as the Gemini update spreads further and further.
In the same forum post, Google also encourages user feedback on Gemini for Home as it becomes established: you can simply say “okay Google, send feedback” near one of your smart speakers or displays, then share your thoughts. There are more details here.
Get your place in the queue
According to the newly revised FAQ page, there’s no way to guarantee you’ll be next in line for Gemini for Home – you’ll just have to be patient. That said, you’ll need to sign up for early access to the features to be considered part of the first wave of updates.
You should also make sure your home address is updated in the Google Home app, as addresses are how the rollout is managed. Tap your account picture (top right), then select Manage your Google Account and Personal information to make changes.
The forum post also mentions some positive feedback from early Gemini for home users. It’s apparently a “massive improvement”, a “game changer” and “awesome” – although we suspect there’s been some negative feedback too.
When the Gemini update reaches you, it should work on Google’s smart home devices going back 10 years. The basic AI will be available for free, but if you want advanced Gemini features, you’ll need to pay for a Google Home Premium subscription.
