- The Coros Pace 4 smartwatch has just been launched
- It adds an AMOLED screen and better heart rate accuracy
- The price has increased slightly compared to the Coros Pace 3
If you are into streamlined, lightweight running watches, the Coros Pace series has long offered strong competitors. There was a lot to like in the Pace 3, but there’s stiff competition from the likes of the Garmin Forerunner 165 and the Fitbit Versa 3. Can the Coros keep up? We’re about to find out, as the company has just announced an update to its popular Pace range.
The Coros Pace 4 comes with a number of updates, but still packs in the lightweight frame of its predecessor and maintains its weight of 32g when paired with a nylon strap. It should be featherweight enough not to weigh you down when you’re out on the trail.
One of the most significant upgrades in the Pace 4 is the addition of a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, bringing this aspect closer to the Coros Pace Pro watch. When we reviewed the Pace 3, we thought of it for its mineral glass LCD screen that could be a little hard to see in bright sunlight. With the addition of AMOLED technology, you should be able to enjoy a brighter, clearer display in all conditions.
Coros says it has also improved the watch’s heart rate accuracy, giving you more accurate readings that should better reflect your actual heart health. This is due to a newly designed heart rate sensor that Coros says is able to reduce outlying peaks and dips in your readings.
Even longer battery life
On top of that, the Pace 4 comes with voice-activated controls thanks to a built-in microphone. This means you can now record exercise logs, capture Voice Pins, jot down memos and more, all without touching your watch’s display.
Battery life was always a strong point of the Pace 3, and the Pace 4 has improved it again. After 41 hours, you’ll get more juice out of the Pace 4 when connected to a five-satellite network than the Pace 3 would when connected to two satellites (25 hours). In terms of GPS training, that’s pretty impressive.
However, not everything has changed. The design remains the same as what you’ll find on the Pace 3, while features like the Virtual Pacer and race predictions carry over from the previous model. We praised the large number of metrics present with the Pace 3, so it’s good to see a lot of that in the new Pace 4.
As for the price, the Coros Pace 4 will cost you $249 (£229 GBP) and is available now. It’s a slight increase on the $229 / £219 price of the Pace 3, but as affordability was one of the main highlights of the previous model, we’re glad to see the price hasn’t gone up too much.
