Both sides express their willingness to strengthen existing military-to-military cooperation
RAWALPINDI:
Tajikistan’s Defense Minister, Colonel General Sobirzoda Emomali Abdulrahim, called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the Headquarters (GHQ) on Friday.
During the meeting, issues of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defense cooperation were discussed, said a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Both sides expressed their willingness to strengthen existing military-to-military cooperation, especially in the areas of training, counter-terrorism and regional security.
The visiting dignitary appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Army and acknowledged its role in promoting regional stability and peace.
The COAS emphasized the importance of collective efforts for regional stability and prosperity, but reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defense and security ties with Tajikistan.
President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday, while terming Tajikistan as a bridge to the heart of Central Asia, called Pakistan the same as the gateway to international waters as the two states can play a significant role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
The President made these remarks during a call paid by the Minister of Defense of Tajikistan, Colonel General Sabirzoda Emomali Abdulrahim here at Aiwan-e-Sadr, a presidential press release said.
