LAHORE:

Jamaat-e-Islami emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, categorically rejecting the 27th constitutional amendment, said on Tuesday that it was against the principles of Quran and Sunnah to grant legal immunity to any person.

Speaking at the Lahore Press Club, the JI emir claimed that the debate surrounding the 26th, 27th, 28th and now the 29th Amendment betrayed attempts to upset the balance of power between state institutions and the judiciary.

Recalling that JI had earlier opposed similar changes, he maintained that no individual should be exempted from accountability under Islamic or constitutional principles.
