ISLAMABAD:
Leaders of an opposition party alliance – Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan (TTAP) – held a joint protest march in Islamabad on Tuesday – from Parliament House to the Supreme Court.
Key opposition figures including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, Aamir Dogar, Azam Swati, Ali Muhammad Khan and others attended the meeting. A large number of workers also participated in the protest march.
At the start of the walk, police tried to prevent participants from moving forward, citing safety concerns. However, the continuous arrival of senior leaders and pressure from the workers allowed the demonstration to continue.
The participants carried banners and placards and shouted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments and calling for the true supremacy of the Constitution.
When the opposition leaders reached the Supreme Court, they addressed the media in detail.
TTAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said a nationwide black day would be observed on Friday.
He argued that the 27th Amendment had perverted the spirit of the Constitution and that the move was not only unconstitutional but also un-Islamic.
