HYDERABAD:

As armed tribal clashes continue unabated in Sukkur and Larkana divisions, human casualties are mounting. Five men were gunned down in two separate incidents in Khairpur district on Thursday. A long-running vendetta between the Ulra and Jatoi clans in the Prialo area claimed four lives and left several others injured, including a passerby from a minority community.

Three of the deceased belonged to the Ulra caste while one was from the Jatoi clan.

They have been identified as Majid Ulro, Dhani Bux Ulro, Gullan Ulro and Azam Jatoi.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Faiz Muhammad Bandho police station in a riverside village.

Local residents reported that gunfire between the two sides continued for over an hour until a large police force arrived. Hafiz Ghulam Abbass Ulro told the media that their men were sowing wheat on Thursday morning when the Jatois allegedly launched an unprovoked attack.

District SSP Sardar Hassan Niazi said five suspects have been arrested while searches for others are on. Several police cordons have been established in the area to prevent further clashes.

The suspects reportedly fled the location after locking their homes. The dead and injured were taken to a government hospital in Pir Jo Goth where a post-mortem was conducted. The police had not registered an FIR for the incident in the evening.

In a separate incident on Thursday, a young man was killed and a child injured during an armed confrontation between members of the Ujjan and Kaleri castes in Khuhra area of Khairpur.
