President Zardari congratulates Pakistan’s snooker team for winning the World Cup

Pakistan won the 2025 Oman World Cup Team Snooker Championship, edging Hong Kong 3-2 in a tense Muscat final

President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated Pakistan’s national snooker team for winning the 2025 Oman World Cup Team Snooker Championship and praised the superb performance of cueists Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal in the title clash.

In his message, the President commended the duo for their skill, dedication and professionalism, noting that their commitment had brought glory to the country. He said the team’s remarkable comeback during the tournament had “raised the country’s head high.”

Praying for their continued success, President Zardari expressed hope that the newly crowned world champions would secure more international titles for Pakistan.

Pakistan lifted the World Cup Snooker Team Championship after edging Hong Kong 3-2 in a tense final in Muscat, Oman. The match went down to the decisive fifth frame, where the national team held their nerve to secure the title.

The pairing of former World Champion and current Masters World Champion Mohammad Asif with experienced cueist Asjad Iqbal remained composed and consistent throughout the tournament. Their strong campaign included a 1-3 win over arch-rivals India in the semi-final which took them into the final with momentum.

In the other semi-final, Hong Kong’s Chau Hon Man and Nansen Wan earned a narrow 3-2 victory over compatriots Hong Kong China-1 to book their place in the championship match.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated the winning pair and said the cueists had once again raised the national flag through their performance. He praised their clinical display in the final and acknowledged the efforts of both players and their coach, noting that “Pakistan is achieving success across multiple arenas.”

Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) Chairman Alamgir Shaikh termed the victory as an important milestone for the sport in the country.
