- Two major boutique PC makers are warning of memory-driven price increases
- Maingear’s CEO tells us to consider buying now as RAM ‘prices will continue to rise’
- CyberPowerPC says prices of its gaming PCs will rise from December 7 due to RAM price hikes
If you want more proof that Black Friday might be the best time to buy a new PC, we’ve just been treated to another few gems (among other recent warnings).
It’s not just about new PCs, but specifically that the price of memory is rising sharply – so system RAM is now suddenly very expensive, as is storage (another kind of memory, of course). The combined increase in the price of RAM and SSDs means that pressure is put on the price of new desktop computers with these components inside. (GPUs are also another casualty here, as these boards use video RAM, exacerbating the difficulties for PC manufacturers).
The first nugget comes from Wccftech interviews the CEO of PC maker Maingear, Wallace Santos, and asks what advice he would give to consumers building or upgrading a PC, given the possibility analysts have claimed that memory shortages could continue into 2027.
Santos noted, “We have already seen DRAM prices skyrocket due to the shortage and are holding back these price changes for our customers as long as we can. For consumers interested in getting a new PC or upgrading their current system’s GPU, SSD or RAM, they should consider shopping now and look for deals that have not yet experienced price increases.”
On top of that, VideoCardz noted that CyberPowerPC, another pre-built computer supplier, has announced on X that the prices of their gaming PCs will increase starting December 7 due to unfavorable market conditions, namely these memory price increases.
CyberPowerPC says RAM prices have increased by 500% and SSD prices have doubled, and of course this has a direct impact on the price of their gaming PCs, an effect that has been felt since the start of October.

Analysis: RAM Boosters
CyberPowerPC is correct in noting that October was when RAM prices really skyrocketed, after months of warnings that this would happen. Although no one predicted the magnitude of these increases (which actually started in late September, based on what I’ve seen, but that’s really nit-picking – the bottom line is that it’s a recent development).
However, has the price of memory increased sixfold in the last two months? Well, no, not for consumers anyway. RAM kits have doubled in cost, or at worst come close to tripling – which of course is still a nightmarish increase.
So if you’re considering buying a new PC, a Black Friday deal is probably your best bet for quite some time. Because first, you’ll probably be able to find some kind of discount, and second, you’ll be getting in before those price increases really start to be felt.
As Maingear’s CEO notes, the PCs it sells now were protected from the price hikes when the components were purchased a while back. But that won’t be the case for much longer, and in fact Santos makes it clear the situation will get worse, saying, “I expect prices to continue to rise and then eventually we’ll have to increase our lead times as inventory and allocations become constrained.”
While CyberPowerPC talks about ‘temporary’ price increases, don’t let that give you the impression that they will be short-lived – it just means they won’t be permanent. With respect to how these increases may be temporary, the overall buzz suggests that 2026 will be a bad year for memory prices, and perhaps we may witness an actual RAM drought.
Attach the usual caveat of not having a crystal ball, but it’s getting to the point where it’s hard to believe that this lack of memory won’t be a full-blown crisis through much, if not all, of next year, and maybe into 2027. And if you’re looking at PC components, it’s a little too late for RAM alarm on a smart SSD card, but especially a Black Friday card or a smart SSD card. also. We’ve also got the best Black Friday laptop deals if you want to go that route too.
