Ishaq Dar speaks at a high-level OIC event on peace and tolerance on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session
ISLAMABAD:
Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Ishaq Dar on Friday emphasized the need for ECO member states to increase cooperation in sustainable transport, transit trade, customs harmonization and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Addressing the 29th ECO Council of Ministers (COM) meeting held virtually, the DPM/FM called for concerted efforts by member states to combat terrorism, which threatens regional economic progress.
In his speech, the DPM congratulated Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev for hosting the ECO-COM meeting. He also appreciated the contributions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, and ECO Secretary General, Ambassador Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, for their leadership in advancing the ECO agenda.
DPM Dar emphasized the important role of ECO in promoting prosperity, economic integration and connectivity. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ECO Vision 2025 and expressed Pakistan’s intention, as the incoming Chair of ECO COM, to work closely with Member States to finalize ECO Vision 2026-2035.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s priority to strengthen multimodal transport corridors, harmonize customs frameworks and align transport systems for seamless regional integration.
