- Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in talks to appear in Batman Part II
- The former Marvel star is eyeing a major role in the sequel
- Fans have their say on who she should play
Scarlett Johansson is set to play a major role in Batman Part IIaccording to reports.
As originally reported by Nexus Point News, and later confirmed by Deadline and Variety, Johansson is said to be close to becoming the sequel’s first major cast addition. There’s no word on who the A-lister will play, but Nexus has suggested that Johansson’s character could be a love interest for the titular vigilante, who will once again be portrayed by Robert Pattinson.
If Johansson signs on, she will join other returning faces from Batmanincluding Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell. However, Variety has indicated that Zoe Kravitz is not in line to reprise her role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the DC Comics film, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
The cameras should start rolling Batman 2 in early 2026, so new cast announcements can be expected at this stage of pre-production. Perhaps we’ll find out if one of the Dark Knight’s most iconic allies will also be part of the case in the near future.
Who could Scarlett Johansson play in The Batman Part II?
Possible spoilers follow Batman Part II.
As I mentioned, the identity of Johansson’s character has not been revealed yet.
Nevertheless, DC diehards have been quick to fancast the former Marvel superstar as various Batman-adjacent individuals since the news broke. In fact, threads on r/DC_Cinematic, r/DCULeaks, and ResetEra are full of suggestions from intrigued users, while other social media platforms like X/Twitter are flooded with similar theories.
So who are the potential frontrunners? Many fans have immediately suggested that Johansson would fit the bill as classic villain/anti-her Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy. However, Matt Reeves’ Bat-Verse does not deal with the supernatural and/or fantastic side of the Caped Crusader’s story. Unless major changes are made to the character’s origin and power set, it is highly unlikely that ‘ScarJo’ will portray Ivy.
Other notable characters in the frame include Gotham City reporter Vicky Vale and Talia ah Ghul, the latter of whom is not only an on-off lover of Batman, but — spoiler! – mother of his son Damian Wayne. In the comics, he continues to be the fifth iteration of Robin, and with rumors online that Robin may be part of the story, Johansson being cast as Talia isn’t that big of a leap to make.
However, the biggest name on everyone’s lips is Andrea Beaumont. First appeared in animated film from 1994 Batman: Mask of the PhantasmBeaumont is initially introduced as Bruce Wayne’s fiancee. However, as the story progresses, it is soon revealed that she has her own secret identity in the form of a supervillain called Phantasm.
Given how grounded Reeves’ Bat-Verse is, Phantasm would be a more than adequate antagonist for Batman 2. Beaumont’s romantic involvement with Wayne also means she would fit the bill from a love interest perspective.
Are we about to see a live action take off Mask of Phantasmso? That would be cool, but it would put a damper on the rumors Batman Part II will feature one of the latest additions to the superhero rogues gallery in The Court of Owls. I guess we’ll find out more once more cast announcements are made and/or filming gets underway.
