Aurat March raises concerns over ‘rising abductions’

KARACHI:

The organizers of the Aurat march have expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of alleged abduction of minor girls in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference at KPC, social activist Sheema Kermani demanded that the government ensure the safe return of abducted Baloch women and children, including Nasreen Baloch and Mahjabeen Baloch, and immediately release minors and differently-abled persons in captivity.

A heavy police presence was observed around the KPC in anticipation of the press conference. Kermani claimed that the police tried to block the entrance to the venue by using force against the activists. She also accused the police of detaining Seema Din Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, and imposing traffic restrictions around the area.

Kermani highlighted the alarming increase in alleged enforced disappearances, pointing out that girls as young as 14 or 15 are being abducted – a problem she described as worsening by the day.
