The desperate hunt for the gunman who killed two and wounded nine at Brown University entered its fourth day with investigators sifting through hundreds of tips.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has also released a new detailed video timeline of the suspect “casing” the campus in the hours before the attack.
The enhanced footage shows the person of interest walking through Providence neighborhoods, carefully mapping out a route that began around 10:30 a.m. (local time) on Saturday, December 13, for more than five hours before the shooting inside the Barus-Holley engineering building.
Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez Jr. said the person appeared to be constantly monitoring the area.
Perez said, “What we know for sure is that he sued the area, and again, that’s what criminals do before they commit a crime.”
Authorities asked the public to study the suspect’s body movements, posture and gait in hopes of a breakthrough identification.
It is important to note that all videos on the timeline came from off-campus sources. Investigators confirmed that cameras inside the engineering building captured the chaos, but not the shooter, who was moving through an older section with little coverage.
This raises questions about the attacker’s knowledge of the location.
However, the collection of voluntary DNA samples indicates that evidence was found at the scene but did not match in national databases.
The campus remains on edge, with classes canceled and a statewide review of school security measures ordered by the governor.
