If you have a look at our list of the best foldable phones, you will see that Samsung is well represented, and a new leak may have given us a big hint about what to expect from an upcoming Samsung foldable that will arrive in the middle of next year.
The foldable is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, and according to South Korean outlet The Bell (via 9to5Google ), the handset is set to go all in on the recently official Samsung Exynos 2600 processor.
If that turns out to be the case, the foldable flip will follow the lead of its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: that phone exclusively used the Exynos 2500 chipset, although all Galaxy S25 phones from earlier this year (and indeed the Galaxy Z Fold 7) went with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets instead.
Going with Exynos will certainly save Samsung money: the Exynos 2600 is the first mobile chipset built using a 2 nanometer process, which means higher transistor density, better performance and improved efficiency. Graphics and AI capabilities have also been upgraded over the previous generation.
The Exynos question
Every year we wonder how many handsets are going to get Exynos processors. Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, which Samsung also uses, are more expensive for the manufacturer to buy in, but are generally considered superior in terms of performance – although that can change from year to year.
Last year, Exynos 2500 production issues were rumored to be the reason it was largely overlooked until the Galaxy Z Flip 7 arrived in July 2025. The chipset also made it into the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE launched at the same time, offering users a flip-foldable at a cheaper price.
At least on paper, the Exynos 2600 looks like an impressive piece of silicon, and it’s expected to play a bigger role than the Exynos 2500 did. It seems to appear in the Galaxy S26+ in at least some areas, for example.
With rumors also swirling that the Galaxy S26 series might launch later this year than the Galaxy S25 phones did before them, we may have to wait a little longer to find out what Samsung has decided – and of course we’ll let you know as soon as it’s official.
