- The next main line Zelda the game could be inspired by Koei Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
- The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has teased the next Zelda game, saying he was inspired by Koei Tecmo’s spin-off entry
- “The inspiration we got from working with Koei Tecmo in this way can be reflected in the next one Zelda we create,” says Aonuma
The Legend of Zelda producer, Eiji Aonuma, has suggested that the next entry in the long-running series will be inspired by Koei Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.
In an interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer (via VGC ), Aonuma teased the next one Zelda game and said his team has taken inspiration from Koei Tecmo’s Nintendo Switch 2 spin-off title.
“Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the first Zelda title on the Nintendo Switch 2,” Aonuma said. “To be honest, we wanted to be the ones who self-published the ‘first’ (laughs).
“However, the inspiration we have gained from working with Koei Tecmo in this way can be reflected in the next Zelda we create. While playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonmentwe hope you will imagine these possibilities and look forward to ours Zelda.”
Prison age is the third game in the Hyrule Warriors series, and depicts the events leading up to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The previous game, The age of misfortunealso do the same by telling the story about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s story as a prequel.
Nintendo has not announced the third game in its new Zelda series, but I’m curious to see if Aonuma will use Prison age‘s mix of action mechanics as inspiration for the next post.
In TechRadar Gaming Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment review, hardware editor Rhys Wood called the game “a huge improvement over The age of misfortune“, offering “multiple characters with interesting move sets, decent performance, and a story that doesn’t refer to itself as a pointless ‘what if’ scenario.”
