Police oppose FIR against Bollywood’s Dhurandhar over PPP rally depiction

The applicant failed to confirm the allegations, registration of the case was not justified, the police told the court

The police have filed a report in a sessions court opposing the registration of a case against the writer, producer and actors of the Indian film Dhurandharaccused of showing a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) demonstration and pictures of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto without permission

The court was hearing an application for registration of an FIR against the film’s makers for allegedly portraying a PPP meeting and showing pictures of the party’s former chairman in the film.

During the hearing, the SHO of Darakhshan Police Station submitted his report in which it was stated that attempts were made to contact the complainant on the telephone number provided but no contact could be established. The applicant also did not appear before the police to confirm his allegations.

The report said that all the named accused are Indian nationals and neither their residence nor business interests are located in Pakistan. It further stated that all scenes of the film were shot outside Pakistan and no evidence was found that any part of the shooting took place in the country. Therefore, registration of a case according to the law was not justified.

The application was filed by PPP worker Aamir Khoso, who claimed that the film had shown a party meeting and pictures of the former PPP chairman without permission. He further claimed that Karachi, especially Lyari, was portrayed as a hub of terrorism in the film, which could damage Pakistan’s image as well as the reputation of the PPP.
