- DJI Osmo Action 6 can now record in 8K
- This comes via a firmware upgrade with other goodies included
- You can update now via the DJI Mimo app
Read our DJI Osmo Action 6 review and you’ll see that we were very impressed with the action camera – it scored four and a half stars out of five – but the device is now even better, as its latest firmware upgrade increases the maximum video recording resolution to 8K.
News of the update was posted to Instagram by DJI (via PetaPixel), and you can see from the post that 8K recording is now available at 30 frames per second in a 16:9 aspect ratio. It’s a pretty sweet free upgrade for owners of the camera.
There’s more to the update, too: it also adds the ability to upload footage directly from the camera to various cloud services, including OneDrive and Google Drive, or a personal NAS. This can be done automatically or manually as needed.
Action camera owners now also have access to new film-style tone presets in Photo mode, plus additional customization options and a few other minor tweaks (the grid overlay in Custom mode, for example, has been tweaked for the better).
Better than ever
The DJI Osmo Action 6 was already one of the best action cameras on the market, and these new upgrades make it even better. It offers excellent photo and video quality in a wide range of lighting conditions and a user-friendly interface.
“With Osmo Action 6, DJI cements its position as a real threat to GoPro’s dominance of the action camera market,” we wrote in our review. “Osmo Action 6 is another step in the right direction for DJI.”
If you own one of these cameras, you can get the new update through the DJI Mimo app – it should automatically appear as a prompt on the screen inside the app when it’s ready (firmware 01.02.05.21 is the version you’re looking for).
It’s another reminder that software updates don’t have to be just about bug fixes: they can also bring really useful improvements that add extra value for money when companies invest enough time and effort into them.
