Greer Grammer, daughter of Kelsey Grammer, shared some insights into her relationship with her estranged father.
The actress reconnected with her father at the age of 16 after a 12-year separation.
In a recent podcast episode of the Pretty basicthe Awkward star revealed what she considered to be the “worst” thing her father has said to her following their time apart.
“[Grammer] was always my last name. I guess my father asked my mother – he told me later – but he said, ‘I told your mother… I said it might be better for you not to have my last name. It would be easier for you to grow up,” Greer said.
She added: “I think I was 19 when he told me and I started sobbing because to me it was like the meanest thing you could ever say to someone like… ‘I knew I didn’t want to be in your life so I told my mom it would probably be easier for you not to have my last name’.”
However, she admitted the proposal was “fair” and said her father “wasn’t wrong.”
Elsewhere on the podcast, Greer said the biggest misconception about her was that she didn’t know her father until she was 16. Kelseyen divorced Greer’s mother, stylist Barrie Buckner, when Greer was 4.
