Pakistani authorities have intercepted a large cache of ammunition and magazines being smuggled from Afghanistan, sources at the Torkham border confirmed. According to officials, the weapons were seized from a truck and both the vehicle and its driver have been detained for further investigation.

The operation was carried out by the Pakistan Customs House in Torkham, under the supervision of Customs Collector Apprizment and Additional Collector Amir Hamza Cheema, following a tip-off. Authorities said the interception not only thwarted a major arms smuggling attempt, but also thwarted a potential large-scale terror operation in Pakistan.

Security sources noted that following the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan, billions of dollars worth of military equipment was left behind, some of which is believed to be used by the banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) against Pakistani security forces.

Both the UN and US officials have identified the TTP as a major regional security threat, posing dangers to Pakistan and neighboring countries.
