After winning their first domestic trophy for 70 years last season, Newcastle are now just two games away from another trip to Wembley and the chance to defend their crown. To do so, they will need to overcome Man City in what should be a closely contested 2025/26 Carabao Cup semi-final.
Playing at home in the first leg, Newcastle will look to gain the upper hand ahead of February’s trip to the Etihad and will be hoping to repeat the league win they achieved earlier this season. Back in November, Harvey Barnes was the match-winner as his two second-half goals secured a 2-1 victory over City.
After that win, Eddie Howe’s side endured a difficult period, but there have been signs of improvement over the last month. They overcame Fulham to reach the semi-finals, have won three consecutive Premier League games and most recently knocked out Bournemouth to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.
City, meanwhile, have drawn their last three league games but have excelled in the cup competitions. They slipped past Brentford in the quarters and destroyed Exeter City 10-1 in the FA Cup. With new signing Antonione Semenyo hitting the ground running in that game, manager Pep Guardiola will be hoping the striker can inspire his side to victory at St. James’ Park.
