Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will reveal what Jessica Jones has been up to since we last saw her in her self-titled show last season.
Jones, who will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in the Disney+ series’ next chapter, has not been seen since her eponymous TV series ended in mid-2019. Last July, however, Marvel confirmed that Jones would appear Daredevil: Born Againsecond season – and in even more audience-friendly news, she’ll be played once again by Krysten Ritter.
Now, speaking on the latest edition of the Official Marvel Podcast, Marvel’s Head of Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum revealed Born again season 2 will catch us up on what Jones has been up to in the nearly seven years since she last graced our screens.
“It was so exciting when she [Ritter] walked on set for the first time in the leather jacket and boots,” gushed Winderbaum. “You’re like ‘there she is.’
“I don’t want to spoil anything, but what’s really fun about that character is the time jump since the last time we saw her,” he continued. “It’s been a while, so we’re re-establishing this character and catching up with the audience on what the hell she’s been up to, and it’s been filled with a lot of really cool surprises.”
Defend your city – and your family?
Predictably, the latter part of Winderbaum’s response has tongues wagging among Marvel fans as to what he’s teasing. And in the hours since this episode of the podcast was released, listeners have come up with a big theory about Jones ahead of the next chapter of Daredevil‘s small screen production.
Full spoilers immediately follow for Jessica Jones’ comic book story and Jessica Jones season 1. Potential spoilers are also discussed for Born again season 2.
In the source material, Jones and another super-powered individual Luke Cage end up having a child – a daughter named Danielle – together. Danielle is a relatively new addition to Marvel Comics’ ever-growing roster of characters, with the couple’s offspring debuting in ‘The Pulse #3’ in January 2006.
It is now not a confirmation of that Born again season 2 will reveal that Jones is now a mother. But in Season 1 of her Netflix TV series, which the now-defunct Marvel Television co-produced, Jones and Cage — the latter played by Mike Colter — became romantically entangled for a period before breaking up.
The pair reunited in the 2018 crossover series The defenderswhich saw them help Daredevil and Iron Fist defeat The Hand before going their separate ways. Then, before Jessica Jones ended its third and final season, Colter guest-starred as Cage in its eighth episode, revealing that the duo were still on good terms.
Given the pair’s romantic history in the comics, the cordial status of their dynamic before Netflix’s Marvel-Verse ended, and the ongoing rumors that Colter will also return as Cage in the Marvel Phase 6 project have fans theorizing that we will soon learn that they are an item again.
In the wake of Winderbaum’s new comments, MCU fans are also increasingly certain that one of the “very cool surprises” he alludes to is that they will have become parents to Danielle. In fact, threads that recently appeared on r/MarvelStudios and r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers are full of comments from users suggesting that this will be the case.
Will this theory be proven correct? We’ll find out when Born again‘s second season will be released on Disney+, also known as one of the world’s best streaming services, in March. In the meantime, read up on everything we know so far Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
