- A Sony launch event will take place on January 21st
- Rumors suggest that we will see the LinkBuds Clip earphones
- The wait continues for the Sony WF-1000XM6 earphones
Sony has posted a mysterious teaser online announcing a new product that will be unveiled next Wednesday, January 21st. The tagline promises “a new kind of listening,” and we think that means new wireless earbuds are on the way.
The teaser was originally spotted by The Walkman Blog, but some extra context added by the tipsters at Dealabs suggests that we’ll be getting the Sony LinkBuds Clip earphones at this special launch event – not the Sony WF-1000XM6, that is.
We’ve seen plenty of rumors surrounding the Sony WF-1000XM6 in recent weeks, and given how much we loved the Sony WF-1000XM5, we’re also very much looking forward to these wireless earbuds. However, it is more likely that they will be launched in February.
Instead of the Sony WF-1000XM6, we get the Sony LinkBuds Clip, according to those in the know. We’ve previously seen several pairs of earbuds in the LinkBuds range, including the Sony LinkBuds Open.

More info from Dealabs suggests that the LinkBuds Clip earphones will have the model number WF-LC900 and will look similar to the Huawei FreeClip or JBL Soundgear Clips that were just revealed at CES 2026.
This means a kind of hook that goes behind the ear to keep the earphones in place for longer periods of time while still feeling light. At the same time, the open ear design will apparently allow ambient sounds through.
The earphones are said to come with three different listening modes, plus support for 360-degree real-world audio and spatial audio adaptation. Battery life is reportedly nine hours for the earbuds alone, with a further 28 hours provided by the case.
They’ll be IPX4 rated for splash and sweat protection, according to Dealabs, and four colors are predicted: black, green, purple and cream. The launch price mentioned in the article is $229.99 (approx £170 / AU$345).
Whatever Sony unveils next Wednesday, you’ll be able to read about it right here, so stay tuned.
