- The brave and the bold‘s author has reportedly been revealed
- They wrote the scripts for Birds of prey and The Flash
- DCU co-CEO James Gunn has yet to comment on the DCU Batman movie rumor
The brave and the bold the writer’s identity has reportedly been revealed – and DC fans are voicing their displeasure over the hiring.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, the DC Universe (DCU) Batman movie will be written by Christina Hodson. The Hollywood writer is best known for writing the screenplays for Birds of prey and The Flashaka two films set in the now defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Normally I would caution against believing what you read on the internet. This is especially true of rumors coming from people like Sneider, who are believed to have good contacts within the industry, but whose track record with leaks is mixed at best.
On this occasion, however, another industry insider who goes by the name Apocalyptic Horseman on X/Twitter said Hodson is write the script for the DCUs Batman flick. Apocalyptic Horseman is far more reliable when it comes to scoops and other industry gossip, so there seems to be some credence to this rumor.
The revelation about Hodson’s involvement comes just days after DCU co-head James Gunn gave a small update on The brave and the bold‘s development.
In response to a fan during a Threads Q&A session, Gunn hinted that while the DCU Chapter One movie is in the works, it could be a long time before it’s released in theaters. That’s because, from a Batman project perspective, DC Studios’ current priority is filming Batman Part II and ensure it meets its October 2, 2027 launch date.
The film, which exists independently of the DCU, is the sequel to the 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson Batman and is set to begin filming sometime in early 2026. Since Gunn also says there will be no movement on TB&TB until an “actionable script” is ready, it will be a long time before The Dark Knight officially makes its DCU debut.
How have DC Comics fans reacted to Christina Hodson’s hiring?
It’ll be funny if it’s her, Gunn literally has Drew Goddard in his writers room, a publicly avowed Batman fan, and still decided to hand it over to the writer of The Flash lol https://t.co/DZzaIzAK9D21 January 2026
Not good. In fact, a thread on the DC Cinematic Reddit page is full of opinions ranging from general confusion to outright frustration. Similar sentiments have been expressed on other social media platforms, including X/Twitter.
In the grand scheme of things, though, these opinions are held by a fraction – albeit a very vocal one – of the global DC Comics fanbase. So while they give us an insight into what people think of Hodson’s involvement, it is impossible to determine whether the majority of people have a similar view.
It’s not all bad news for some, though. As others have pointed out, Hodson was the lead writer for Bumblebeewhich is widely considered to be one of the better Transformers movies out there. Meanwhile, in the aforementioned Reddit thread, some observers highlighted a scene from The Flashone involving Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, arguing that it shows Hodson has a “great understanding” of the iconic character and his crime-fighting alter-ego.
For what it’s worth, Gunn has yet to confirm or deny—at least at the time of publication—that Hodson is writing TB&TB‘s manuscript.
If Hodson’s involvement is announced in time, it will mark the first major update we’ve received about the DCU’s Batman movies in months. Aside from Gunn’s response to fans on Threads, June 2025 was actually the last time he discussed its development, with the DC Studios co-CEO saying “I think I have a way in” with The brave and the bold‘s history.
