- Everest ransomware group leaked 72.2 million Under Armor accounts after failed negotiations
- Data includes names, emails, dates of birth, purchase history and possibly loyalty program details
- Under Armor remains silent; class actions filed on behalf of affected customers
Online chatters have claimed that Under Armor has suffered a major ransomware attack and data breach, but so far the sportswear giant is being cautious.
Have I been pwned? (HIBP), a free online service that lets people check if their email address or phone number appeared in known data breaches, said it added 72.2 million accounts were stolen in a recent Under Armor breach.
Under Armor has not denied or confirmed the breach, remaining silent – its dedicated newsroom page, as well as social media, does not mention the incident.
Suspected Under Armor hack
The attack reportedly happened in November 2025 and was carried out by a veteran ransomware operator called Everest. The group first tried to negotiate with Under Armor to get paid for the data, but after negotiations broke down, the group leaked the stolen files on the dark web.
After circulating on the dark web, this data has now reached HIBP, which says the batch includes people’s names, email addresses, dates of birth, gender, locations and purchase history.
Everest, on the other hand, says the data also includes phone numbers, postal addresses, loyalty program details and preferred stores.
While the scale of the breach certainly sounds enormous, CyberInsider claims that the majority of emails – 76% – were already present on HIBP when they were exposed in previous breaches. This would mean that the chances of phishing attacks for the majority remained more or less constant, but new findings could make emails more personal and thus harder to spot.
Maybe the retailer didn’t pay the attackers, but chances are – it will have to pay its customers. The register reported that Chimicle’s Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith law firm filed a proposed class action on behalf of Under Armor client Orvin Ganesh.
