ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to provide institutional facilitation and fast-track approvals to partner companies, stressing the importance of deepening long-term cooperation in rail freight modernization, inland logistics and integrated freight corridors.
The President met with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World in Dubai, UAE.
The President appreciated DP World’s strong and enduring partnership with Pakistan and its contribution to the country’s logistics, port operations and infrastructure, the Presidential Secretariat said in a press release.
The meeting reviewed the evolving Pakistani DP World engagement and noted that recent intergovernmental agreements reflected strong commitment from both sides.
The President said these initiatives were in line with Pakistan’s aim to position itself as a regional trade and transit hub through improved connectivity and modern logistics infrastructure.
Highlighting Pakistan’s strategic geographic location at a time of global uncertainty, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem stressed that the country occupied a critical position as sea lanes faced growing pressure.
He noted that Pakistan’s direct connectivity with China and Central Asia, coupled with its access to the Arabian Sea and its surface connectivity through road and rail networks, placed it at the center of regional and interregional trade flows.
He said that Pakistan served as a natural hub connecting important parts of the world by sea and land, and reaffirmed that the UAE will continue to work closely with Pakistan, drawing on decades of trusting and enduring relationship.
Pakistan’s ambassador to UAE was also present during the meeting.
