Sabalenka vs Rybakina preview
Sabalenka arrived in Melbourne as the firm favorite and has lived up to her billing with a host of brilliant performances. The top seed has swept past all comers in Melbourne to reach a fourth consecutive Australian Open final and is yet to drop a single set. On Thursday she beat Elina Svitolina 6-2 6-3 and stunned the 12th seed as she hit a series of winners.
Now on an 11-match winning streak, Sabalenka will be full of confidence as she bids to win the Australian Open title for the third time. She will have some demons to overcome though, having suffered a shock defeat in last year’s final to Madison Keys.
Rybakina has been equally impressive in reaching the third slam final of her career. The fifth seed is also yet to drop a set and has been particularly impressive in her last two matches, seeing off second seed Iga Świątek in the quarters and then American Jessica Pegula in the semis.
The 2022 Wimbledon champion has lost just one of her last 20 matches and is one of the few players on tour who can match Sabalenka’s power. She also has a positive record against the top seed on hard courts, having won six of their 11 matches on the surface.
