- Spotify is rolling out three new upgrades to its Lyrics tool
- After experimenting with Lyric Translations at the end of last year, Spotify is launching it globally
- In addition, Lyrics will now have a new home in the Spotify app, and Premium users will also have offline access to Lyrics
Even though it’s been five years since Spotify launched Lyrics, there’s still a lot of work to be done – even if it’s one of the best music streaming services out there. Earlier this year, I shared my list of improvements I wanted Spotify to make in 2026, and one of them has already been addressed.
Starting today, the platform is rolling out not one, but three upgrades to its lyrics tool, and it’s been a long time coming, though Apple Music has had one of them for a few months now.
The three new upgrades not only give Spotify’s Lyrics a new look, but give them a whole new purpose – starting with Lyric Translations.
Lyrical translations are finally going global
After a successful trial in over 25 markets, Lyric Translations is going global, so now you’ll be able to understand what your favorite artists are singing about, no matter what your native language is.
This will be handy for English speakers like me who love music from artists like Rosalia and Bad Bunny but still rely on third-party apps for translations.
Following the launch of Apple Music’s own lyric translation tool in September 2025, Spotify began experimenting with a similar feature shortly after the platform launched Lyric Translations upon the release of Rosalia’s album Lux. At the time it was only available to select markets, but that is no longer the case.
Premium users can access offline song lyrics
Wish you could still see lyrics while listening to music offline? Well, now you can.
Along with lyrics translations, Spotify Premium allows subscribers to access song lyrics even when listening without WiFi or service. Now you’ll never miss a line, “whether you’re underground on your commute or flying at 30,000 feet,” as Spotify puts it.
Lyrics find a new home on the play page
Not only are Lyrics getting these two new upgrades, but Spotify is also making them easier to find in the app. Since Spotify launched Lyrics, they’ve stayed in the same place in a tab below the playbar, but now they’re moving front and center.
When you open the playlists page in the Spotify app, the new Lyrics tab will appear directly in the Now Playing view, where, just like before, you’ll see them scrolling while you listen to music.
Although Spotify should have made these updates years ago, better late than never right? The previous Lyrics experience wasn’t the best, so hopefully this next update will give it the vibe it always needed. Now Spotify just needs to fix its sync issues.
