Looking for a different day?
A new NEW Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone – meaning some people always play ‘today’s game’ while others play ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for the Wednesday puzzle instead then click here: NEW Strand’s Hints and Answers for Wednesday, February 4 (Game #703).

NEW Strands today (game #704) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #704, are…
- CITIES
- SENSES
- OCEANS
- VOWELS
- TOES
- DAYS OF THE WEEK
- SPANGRAM: GIVEMEFIVE
- My assessment: Easy
- My score: Perfect
The theme gave things away today with its “quintessential” pun, although I originally thought we might be looking for five-letter words instead of things that are five of.
Seeing BOROUGHS put an end to this idea and instantly triggered memories of the Beastie Boys’ track For the 5 districts. SENSES, meanwhile, automatically made me think of the movie The sixth sense. OCEANS and VOWELS I got to thinking about other famous five things, but I don’t think I would ever have arrived at TOES or WEEKDAYS.
My favorite five item item is the Olympic rings, which with the Winter Games starting tomorrow would have been a nice touch – but difficult to fit in.
Yesterday’s NYT Strand’s Answer (Wednesday, February 4, Game #703)
- COLLECTION DESCRIPTION
- DICE
- GAME
- MINIATURE
- PUZZLE
- MODEL
- SPANGRAM: HOBBYSHOP
