The leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Tehreek Tahaffuz Ain Pakistan (TTAP) on Thursday said they would not compromise on the health of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan and urged the nation to participate in a nationwide shutdown strike scheduled for February 8 (Sunday).
During a joint parliamentary committee meeting at Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, opposition leaders expressed concern over law and order in Balochistan and showed solidarity with the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.
The meeting was attended by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, TTAP chief Mahmood Achakzai, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja and PTI stalwarts Asad Qaiser and Taimoor Saleem Jhagra, among others, according to a media report.
Addressing the participants, Qaiser said the meeting had been called due to Imran’s health. “Don’t push us against the wall, otherwise all options are open,” he said. Speaking about Sunday’s protest, he added: “Today we promise that we will make the protest successful.”
He further said that PTI would meet the Chief Justice on Friday (today). Qaiser said the meeting expressed concern over the PTI founder’s health and demanded that his visiting rights be restored.
The participants demanded steps to ensure the welfare of people in KP’s Tirah Valley. They also condemned the arrest of party leaders and workers in Sindh and announced that rallies would be held on 8 February.
